Elli's trip to the Fair

We took Elli for her first trip to the County Fair on Friday.

How'd it go? Well, the alternate title for this post could have been: "How to traumatize your daughter when you think you're doing something fun (Part 37 of an Ongoing Series....)"

She liked walking around the main part of the fairgrounds, and she liked eating the different food(although Mommy grew up going to a much, much larger County Fair and was thinking things were a lot smaller and had less choices than she was used to)! Then we went to go see the animals.

Elli can tell you what a sheep says and what a cow says, so we thought she'd love to see the sheep and cows. We went first to see the sheep, thinking they'd be less intimidating. Elli wasn't really sure about them, and then one sheep stood up on its hind legs while she was looking at it and Elli got totally freaked out. She spent the rest of our tour of the animals crying with her head buried in my chest (needless to say, it was a short rest of the tour). She finally calmed down enough to go see the cows, which she liked better but still had a death grip on Mommy while viewing.

We did learn something interesting, though. Jeremy and I got a Lemonade in a plastic cup with a plastic straw in it. After watching me drink from it, Elli decided she wanted some. We put the straw in her mouth and lo and behold she started sucking and got a mouthful of Lemonade. She was very surprised, and so were we! Apparently, Elli has now figured out drinking from a straw. (And since the "tip the sippy cup" lessons are not going as well as one would hope, we are now going to buy the sippy cups with straws and are hoping to transition to them!)
